- Strep Throat - child should remain home until on medication for 24 hours
- Pink Eye/conjunctivitis - Children and adults do not need to stay home unless they have a fever or are not able to participate in usual activities. Practice good hand hygiene.
- Colds/Sore Throats/Cough - A child with a cold, having a lot of congestion and a hacking/consistent cough belongs at home, even without fever
Medication
Medication cannot be taken at school unless given by the nurse - this includes cough drops. The nurse must have orders from the doctor in order to give medication at school. The "Order and Consent for Medication to be Administered at School" form can be found on the district Health Services Department website. Colorado Asthma Action Plans, Allergy Action Plans, and more can also be found here. District policy requires that medicine be provided in the original container with pharmacy labels. Over-the-counter medication (ibuprofen, tylenol, saline drops, antibiotic cream etc) can only be given with parental permission through parent forms on Powerschool.
Illness at School
Children can stay in the health office until parent arrives. Please keep your emergency information updated to assure that when your child is sick or injured we can contact you.
Handwashing
Handwashing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses. Please encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, especially before meals and after touching their face.
Healthy Habits
Healthy habits promote healthy children. Please assist your children in selecting a well-balanced breakfast/lunch in order to feed their brain and get the most out of their learning experience. Children often have a stomachache or headache, and frequently the cause is because they did not eat before school.
SPF 15 Sunscreen
The application of sunscreen should become part of your child’s daily morning routine. This will help prevent skin damage that can lead to skin cancers later in life.
